Apart from the wealthy denizens who own most of the private beaches in this cape in Batangas, only a few know that there are still many clear water white sand beach resorts that can be enjoyed here by the public. The town of Calatagan is about 15 kilometers south of the popular beach destination Matabungkay and the Calatagan beaches around Sta. Ana are about 7 kms further south.
How to get there
If you are planning to go by public transport, you can take a bus to Calatagan from Pasay City. From Calatagan you can get a tricycle to take you the beach resorts in the Sta Ana area.
Tips
Observe the tides!
What you will experience in Calatagan would very much depend on the tide. During high tides, you will get to enjoy a nice swim on shallow clear waters. While on low tides, the vast Intertidal rock zone (reef crest) that Calatagan is known for gets exposed and you would not have any area to swim in unless you walk about a hundred meters off shore to a drop onto a reef. The exposed intertidal zone is of much interest to people who are interested in marine life and biology though.
Refer to a tide table and plan your trip during a day when the tide suits your purpose.
