Local folks of Ilayang Dupay spearheaded by a clan who calls themselves "Pitong Lahi" with the help of politicians (then and now) built a monument of Councilor Manuel L. Quezon at this barrio which was his district as a councilor. Internet sources list Quezon's political offices as Councilor, Tayabas, Tayabas in 1905 06 before he became governor of Tayabas Province in 1907 - 1909. Is Ilayang Dupay part of the town of Tayabas back then?
Quezon's birthday is celebrated as a holiday in Quezon Province and Quezon City every August 19. Lucena City's annual celebration of its cityhood (RA 3271) includes a program held at this site.
How to get there.
Ilayang Dupay is easy to find, being the host barangay of the Lucena Grand Terminal along the Lucena Diversion Road. From said terminal, drive along the Diversion Road (or cautiously hire a tricycle) and proceed east bound in the direction of Pagbilao/Bicol. After crossing the Dumacaa Bridge find a concrete-paved Barangay Road to your left. With less than five minutes drive, find Ilayang Dupay Elementary School to your right. From the barangay road, it has its own access road of about a hundred meters.
