Baclayon Church Photo 6 of 6 <<prev | narratives © Photo by: paulperez (2005) All Rights ReservedSee paulperez on Facebook Footnote by: paulperez (2005)"Diocese of Tagbilaran. on this day the 29th of March in the year of our Lord 1998, during the decade of Nationalism and the celebration of the Philippine Centennial, on the twentieth year of the Pontificate of his holiness, Pope John Paul II, Vicar of Christ and Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, the Immaculate Conception Parish Chuch, Baclayon, Bohol, founded in 1596 by the Jesuits, canonically established as a parish in 1717 and declared as a National Historical Landmark in 1994 by the government of the Republic of the Philippines, is singularly privileged to be honored by the presence and attendance of the President of the Philippines, his excellency Fidel V. Ramos, on the occasion of the Inauguration of Phase I and Commencement of Phase II of the Baclayon Church restoration project celebrated in a solemn liturgical rite presided by his Excellency +Leopoldo S. Tumulak, D.D., Bishop of Tagbilaran.
On the Eve of the third millenium, the very Rev. Fr. Celso T. Laolao was the Parish Priest of Baclayon and Vicar Forane of The Our Lady of the Assumption Vicariate, the Rev. Fr. Milan Ted D. Torralba was the Parochial Vicar of Baclayon and chair of the diocesan Commision for the Cultural Patrimony of the church. During the restoration project which began in 1996, Mr. Vileado Plaza and Atty. Fe Virginia Odtohan were the chairs of the Parish Pastoral Council assisted by Ms. Carmen Gatal, President of the Baclayon Church Restorer's Association, Inc. Implementation of the restoration project was executed by the local Government unit of Baclayon during the incumbency of the Honorable Mayor, Atty. Felix R. Uy, and the Honorable Vice-Mayor Joel Oppus.
As an inter-agency project, our special thanks to Sec. Mina T. Gabor of the Department of Tourism as the Funding Agency, Philippine Tourism Authority, National Historical Institute and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts for extending the necessary Assistance for the Scientific Conservation and Restoration of the National Historical Landmark."
