in a house near the present site of the Cathedral of Cebu is venerated by the faithful in
the nearby Church of San Agustin."
Other accounts say that the image was given as gift by Magellan to King Humabon. If
this was the same image, King Humabon could have left the image in that house from 1521
65
Cathedral of Cebu should not be confused with the Basilica, which is nearby. The Cebu
Cathedral is two blocks away thru an alley to the north. The phrase "nearby Church of
San Agustin" which could confuse you, also pertains to the Basilica del Sto. Ni?o because
it was built by Agustinian Fathers (as indicated in the Basilica's marker). Church of San
Agustin was its old name before the title Basilica Minore del Sto. Ni?o was conferred in
1965 on the 4th centennial of Christianity in the Philippines.
